A note from George...
Dear Friend,
I have no words to tell you how truly honored
I am to stand before you on September 21st as candidate for
Senior Pastor!
For a hundred years University Presbyterian
Church has been a community celebrating the grace of Jesus
Christ. And in response to his grace UPC has joyfully and
generously pursued Jesus and his way in the world. He has shaped
your worship, transformed your relationships, and cast you out
upon neighbors near and far in life-giving love.
Yours is the richest of legacies. But for me,
as wonderful as it all is, it is not the honor that excites me
most. It’s not the legacy either. What makes my heart race most
is your future.
The developments of the information age and
globalization have set before the 21st century church the
opportunity and necessity to re-envision itself perhaps more
than it ever has since the 16th century Reformation. Who better
to embody this renewal than a church as centered in Jesus Christ
as UPC embedded in a city of innovation like Seattle?
I have come to feel a great hope for UPC
and its future. If I imagine my life some years from now and can
look back on my toils and know that somehow God used the gifts
and energies he has given me to draw out more of UPC’s
giftedness and lead it in this adventure with Christ, I cannot
imagine a greater sense of satisfaction and joy.
Yours, George
